Terrorist Attack Foiled on Detroit-Bound Flight

Breaking News: A Nigerian Man attempted to light a powder aboard a Detroit-bound plane Friday before it made an emergency landing at Detroit International Airport, in what the White House is now calling an attempted terrorist attack. The man had “some kind of incendiary device he tried to ignite” in a bag strapped to his body a U.S. official told NBC news. Two passengers witnesses the attempted attack, and a third jumped and restrained the man. More details from CNN.

Note: The plane includes Delta insignia, but operated by Northwest Airlines.

Multiple bomb threats forced the closure of the Oakland Airport for about an hour Monday afternoon; 2 threats toward a specific Southwest Airlines flight, and another at the airport itself. Authorities closed all roads leading into the airport complex -- the West Coast hub for Southwest -- and passengers were hustled out into the parking lot. The closure lasted for about an hour until authorities gave the all clear.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, a bomb threat phoned in Friday afternoon toward a Southwest Airlines flight departing Oakland, caused the already airborne plane to turn around and deplane. All 123 passengers were reportably resent through security and interviewed by the FBI.
