Horizon Air to Drop Sacramento to Santa Barbara Route
Horizon Airlines reservation system indicates the twice-daily service currently offered between Sacramento and Santa Barbara will terminate on August 22, 2010. Although it shows in the current schedule, tickets are no longer bookable beyond this date. This change is part of a larger package of Horizon cuts impacting other regional airports throughout the west.

Summer Season Invites New Bay Area Flights
Just in time for the busy travel season, several new routes are set for take-off at Bay Area airports.
From San Francisco, flights into Bozeman and Missoula, Montana will begin June 9th on United Express, as will flights to Anchorage on United Airlines. Delta will be the latest carrier adding new service between SFO and LAX beginning June 10th, while Hawaiian Airlines adds nonstop service between Oakland and Kahului June 5th.
Also noteworthy is Swiss Air adding service SFO to Zurich this month, Westjet to Vancouver, and Virgin America adds their first international destination to their playbook - Toronto, later in the month.

United Requests to Further Postpone San Francisco to Guangzhou
According to the airline route updates blog, United Airlines has again requested to postpone their San Francisco to Guangzhou launch. The route was awarded to United back in 2007, at which time the airline said it would begin flying in the Spring of 2008. It later postponed the launch to 2009 citing a sluggish economy, and since economic conditions have yet to improve, the airline is now requesting another extension to Summer 2010.

Airline Cutbacks Arriving Soon At Oakland
Many airlines, forced to shrink capacity, are thinning routes or even dropping them entirely from their route map. Oakland Airport has been hit particularly with the downturn in the industry. The following is a recap of announced cutbacks for the next few months at Oakland International:
- American Airlines will cease Oakland operations on September 2nd. The airline has daily non-stops to its Dallas hub.
- Continental Airlines will also end operations the next day, September 3rd. It operates flights to its Houston hub.
- United Airlines, which operates daily flights to Los Angeles will end on November 2nd.
- Southwest will drop its daily non-stop to Tucson, effective November 3rd.
- Taca Airlines, operating a daily flight to San Salvador will end on September 1st.
- ExpressJet will end flights to Salt Lake City on September 1st.

U.S Airways Dropping Oakland to Las Vegas Flights
Airline routes news is reporting that U.S Airways is dropping the daily Oakland to Las Vegas flight. The change is effective August 18th. The Oakland-Las Vegas city pair is part of 18 other routes being cut from the Las Vegas hub.
