BART Board Approves People-Mover to Oakland Airport

BART directors approved a measure today that would provide a driverless train system for passengers traveling between Oakland Airport and BART. Construction on the $440 million contract will begin next Summer, with full operation of the people-mover by 2013. Currently AirBART provides shuttle bus service between Oakland's MacArthur Station and Oakland Airport.

Alaska Airlines To Launch Oakland to Hawaii Flights

Alaska Airlines has announced they intend to start flights between Oakland and Kahului (OGG) and Kona (KOA) beginning this November. The Hawaii flight additions are part of a larger list of new routes being rolled out by the airline over the next several months.

Allegiant Air to Launch Oakland to Eugene Flights

According to the Allegiant Air website, new nonstop service will be introduced between Oakland and Eugene, Oregon, starting June 8, 2009. Currently the route is scheduled for twice weekly service, operating on Monday's and Friday's. Introductory fares of $39 each way are currently available on the allegiantair.com website. 

Earlier this year, the point-to-point carrier added flights between Oakland and Bellingham, Washington, and has recently announced additional operations from Monterey airport. 

Oakland Ranked Best Airport in Nation for On-Time Arrivals

For the second month in a row, Oakland International Airport was ranked the top airport in the nation for on-time arrivals. According to the website flightstats.com, 88.3% of all flights into Oakland arrived on time in February, 88.7% in January. The top spot ranking for Oakland airport was made after Flightstats examined data for 40 major airports throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
