$19 Intro Fares Monterey to Los Angeles, San Diego

Be sure to let your friends and family in the South Bay know of this great offer

Allegiant Airlines, planning to launch nonstop flights between Monterey and L.A and San Diego in early May, is offering $19 one-way introductory fares between the city pairs. Simply go to www.allegiantair.com (click on the "flight only" button) and search for travel dates between May 3 and June 14th. Fares after this date climb to $59+ each way (still quite a bargain!).

Keep in mind that although the round-trip fare is just $38, Allegiant adds a $13.50 "convenience fee" for each ticket purchased.

Zoom Airlines Grounds Flights, Files Bankruptcy

Canadian-based Zoom Airlines failed to receive additional funding from creditors Thursday, causing the airline to suspend operations and enter into Bankruptcy. Yet another victim to the high cost of fuel.

In a press statement today, co-founders of Zoom stated, "We deeply regret the fact that we have been forced to cease all Zoom operations. It is a tragic day for our passengers and more than 600 staff."

The discount carrier operated intra-Canada flights, and internationally between Canada and the U.K, Paris and Rome. Additional service was provided to/from New York, San Diego, Fort Lauderdale and Bermuda.

On the Zoom website, customers holding confirmed reservations are given direction on how to apply for a refund, and an option to receive a discounted price for re-booking with select carriers.

San Diego: Virgin America's next destination?

No official announcement of what city Virgin America plans to expand to next, but this job posting for an Airport Team Member in San Diego might be a clue. San Diego was on a list of several key cities the airline hoped to expand to in the future. At the same time however, the airline faces stiff competition both in schedules and pricing, from Southwest; 18 daily non-stops from Oakland, 8 daily non-stops from San Francisco, 9 from San Jose) and fares as low as $39 each way. Could be a tough market to fly into.
